We are entering the season when brands release watches inspired by the upcoming animal of the Lunar New Year. IWC introduces Portofino Automatic Moon Phase Year of the Snake, a striking dial, a moonphase complication, and a snake on the back.
Design and Details of the Portofino Automatic Moon Phase Year of the Snake
Case
Portofino Automatic Moon Phase Year of the Snake has a stainless steel case measuring 37.1mm wide and 11.3mm thick. It is topped with a polished, sloping bezel and a sapphire case back, and it is water resistant up to 50 meters.
Dial
The dial features a striking red color, symbolizing fire, and is traditionally used in Lunar New Year celebrations in China. This is paired with yellow gold-plated hands and markers, and at 12 o’clock, there is a moon phase display with a darker red disc featuring a gold moon and stars.
Power
Inside is the caliber 32800, an automatic movement that operates at 4Hz and has a 5-day power reserve. The movement is visible through the case back, where the gold-plated rotor resembles a snake. The watch includes a black leather strap and a burgundy calfskin strap.
The new Portofino Automatic Moon Phase Year of the Snake is limited to 500 pieces and priced at $9,700. For more details, visit the IWC website.
