Nomos is widely recognized for its clean, understated, and design-focused watches that often stay out of the spotlight. They appeal to fans of thoughtful design and watchmaking, and that quiet appeal is part of their charm. Still, there are moments when a bit of shine feels right, and nothing brings that out like gold. Nomos already offers a few gold pieces, both regular and limited, though far fewer than they could. Recently, they’ve been expanding that part of their lineup, and the newest additions are the Gold Tangente Neomatik and Ludwig Watches. Both keep the brand’s slim and restrained style, with just the right amount of sparkle and an intriguing price point.
New Gold Tangente Neomatik And Ludwig Watches
Starting with the Tangente, one of Nomos’ most recognizable models, it now comes in a polished 3N yellow gold case measuring a compact 35mm in diameter and only 6.9mm thick. The sapphire crystal reaches right to the edges, and the long angled lugs give it a familiar profile. Water resistance is 50 meters, which is impressive for a watch like this. There are three dial options, all with a small seconds display at 6 o’clock. Two use galvanised silver plated dials, one with blued steel hands and the other with gold hands. The third features a dark grey ruthenium plated dial with gold hands.
Inside is the well known Neomatik DUW 3001 movement, running at 3Hz with a 43 hour power reserve. Each version is paired with a Shell Cordovan strap in brown or black. The Nomos Tangente Gold Neomatik joins the regular collection at €9,800, a high price, but still impressive for a solid gold watch.
Next is the Ludwig Gold, which at first glance looks similar to the Tangente, but carries its own identity. The case is also gold, again at 35mm wide, but even thinner at 6.3mm. The slimmer profile works well with the straight lugs and domed sapphire crystal. Water resistance is 30 meters.
Both available versions use silver plated dials, with the difference being either gold hands or blued steel hands. The Ludwig stands apart through its Roman numerals and railroad minute track. Powering the watch is the DUW 4001, an updated evolution of the Peseux 7001 based Alpha calibre, running at 3Hz with a 53 hour power reserve. The Shell Cordovan straps come in brown or black, and the price is €8,700. You can find more details on the Nomos website.
