Patek Philippe launched its new collection, the Cubitus, the first new collection in 25 years, since introducing the ladies’ Twenty~4 in 1999.

Origins of the Patek Philippe Cubitus

Patek Philippe introduced the Cubitus collection, inspired by its renowned Nautilus watch from 1976. Designed by Gérald Genta, the Nautilus was a breakthrough in luxury sports watches made with high-end stainless steel. Unlike traditional round watches, the new Cubitus features a distinct square-shaped octagon case. Patek President Thierry Stern had envisioned a square watch for years and named the Cubitus himself.

Innovative Design and Details

The Patek Philippe Cubitus case is constructed in two parts and opened from the front. It features a sapphire crystal case back and a polished, satin-brushed finish. The strap matches with polished and brushed finishes and is secured with a fold-over clasp. The new Patek Philippe Cubitus dial has horizontal embossing for added depth and features two color options: sunburst blue and olive. Each watch includes white gold indices and luminous-coated hands. Time-and-date models have a date window at 3 o’clock. Stern aimed to blend sporty and classic Patek styles, utilizing elements from the Nautilus and Aquanaut collections.

Patek’s recognizable “garage door” engraved dial pattern is seen in the Patek Philippe Cubitus. The two-tone and platinum models have blue dials, while the steel model has a green one. The hour markers and hands are completely highlighted. Although there is no denying the similarity to the Nautilus, it unquestionably has a unique design.

Premier Model

Leading the launch is the reference 5822P, priced at $88,378. It showcases a new Caliber 240 PS CI J LU movement with instant grand date, day, and moon phase displays. Innovations required six new patents. Uniquely, the 5822P offers a platinum case, navy composite strap, and a distinctive offset display, making it a bold design choice.

The Cubitus collection also includes time-and-date models like the steel 5821/1A and two-tone 5821/1AR. The 5821/1A carries on the legacy of the Nautilus with its olive green dial, while the 5821/1AR features a striking two-tone look. For Nautilus fans, the decision to choose a Cubitus might depend on its shape and how it fits. Despite its size, many find the 45-mm Cubitus surprisingly comfortable and suitable for everyday wear.

Technical Data:

  • Case diameter: 45mm
  • Lug widths: 44.9mm
